Cat skin infection - should i worry?

the vet diagnosed my cat with a vague skin infection, and gave me drops, a cream, and pills to give him. so far the skin seems less infected but he's still losing hair. i can't tell if this is from him licking it or if the infection is still running its course. any advice?

Cat skin infection - should i worry?
as suggested by one of the "answerers", you should try to place one of those conical collars which will prevent the cat from licking the medication you have placed on the skin.

my cat had a similar condition, and was related to ring worms. try to have the cat's potty cleaned out as much as possible, as this is an area where those dasdardly infections can arise from.

do check with your vet if it is advisable to give your cat a one-time shave / hair trim all over. this can prevent the disease from spreading, and can help with your cat's recouperation.

Good luck to the kitty!
Reply:can you get anything to help him stop licking? If you're not seeing much of a difference take your little fella back to the vet.
Reply:Tell the vet to try flea medicine. Its usually an allergy to fleas that causes hair loss of that magnitude.
Reply:You should bring your cat to the vet again just to clarify if the medicine will really cause some hair loss. :-)
Reply:I would suggest an E-collar. those are the collar that look like a satalite dish. It will keep your pet from licking and not only tearing out hair but also from licking off any needed meds allowing the meds to do thier thing. If its been more than 10 days I would take you kitty back in and tell them the line of treatment doenst seem to be working.
Reply:Bring it to the vet immediately!
